I have been working with adults, couples, teenagers, and families since 1986 when I received my M.Ed. degree in Community/Mental Health Counseling from the Department of Counseling at Mississippi State University. In 1988, I returned to graduate school to obtain an Ed.S. degree in school counseling. I spent thirteen rewarding years working as a counselor at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, a public, residential, magnet, high school for academically talented and gifted juniors and seniors. I then spent three years as a psychotherapist at the Mississippi State University Counseling Center followed by two years as a counselor at the Mississippi School for the Arts, a public, residential magnet, high school for creatively gifted juniors and seniors. From 2008 to 2012, I trained mental health and school counselors as a member of the faculty in the Department of Counselor Education at Delta State University. I have maintained a private counseling practice since 2002.
I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a National Certified School Counselor (NCSC), certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors, a private certifying agency that recognizes counselors who have distinguished themselves through meeting the board’s rigorous standards for education, knowledge, and experience. I am a member of the American Counseling Association, the American Mental Health Counselors Association, Mississippi Counseling Association, and the Mississippi Licensed Professional Counselors Association. In addition to my graduate education, I have had additional training in Gottman Marriage and Couples Therapy, Exposure Therapy for anxiety and PTSD, Positive Psychology, Adlerian Psychotherapy, Stress Management, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Counseling and Spirituality, Solution-Oriented Brief Therapy, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
I am an approved supervisor by the Mississippi Board of Licensed Professional Counselors. I have been supervising counselors for almost ten years. While the MS LPC Board permits distance supervision, I have not yet earned the certification required to conduct distance supervision.
